Smolna Sopot is located in an exceptional place: within the area of the famous Sopot Resort, but in a secluded, quiet part, at the edge of the Tricity Landscape Park. The idea of the housing estate is consistent with its location – it provides a point of balance between extremes: privacy within a huge urban agglomeration, architectural minimalism amongst the historic buildings of Sopot. Residents can enjoy closeness to nature, the peace and quiet of the forest, as well as the unusual Japanese and Scandinavian design of the estate, its stately minimalism and communion with organic finishing materials. Smolna is a projection of the Far Eastern philosophy of the coexistence of home and nature. It is one of the boldest projects yet undertaken by Invest Komfort as far as the architectural design and interior finish solutions. The façade and the finishing of common area walls with Shou Sugi Ban burnt wood, rarely used in the European cultural context, are of an unprecedented scale. One significant challenge was to harmoniously integrate the estate with the neighbouring landscape park, to create a set of specific relations between a living space and the wild nature that surrounds it, without interfering with this natural world during the construction. Smolna is simply bursting with greenery, literally and figuratively taken from the forest. The houses have green roofs, and the façades use eco-friendly finishing materials in the form of wood, and the colour scheme is selected to highlight the natural beauty of the landscape.
