Cathedral of Kazan
The first stone of the main temple of the city was laid on may 30, 1798. It was attended by Emperor Paul I with Grand Dukes Alexander (the future Emperor Alexander I) and Constantine. On may 30, 1808, the Cathedral of the Kazan icon of the mother of God was consecrated.

On June 8, 1579, the girl Marfa discovered an icon of the virgin on the site of a burned house. In 1594, on April 14, under Metropolitan Hermogenes of Kazan and at the behest of Tsar Theodore Ioannovich, a stone Church was laid. It lasted until 1796 and was demolished due to dilapidation. A new Kazan ("Cold") Cathedral was built on the site of the old one, designed by the architect Ivan Yegorovich Starov. The first stone of the main temple of the city was laid on may 30, 1798.
