The facility, built in 1883–1884, initially also served as an officers' casino. During World War I, it housed the guard-house of the nearby military barracks. With the end of hostilities, the barracks lost its importance and the building changed its function - the rooms were adapted into apartments for servicemen. After World War II, the residential function was maintained until the fire in 2015. Since 2021, the facility houses the Caritas children's hospice. The reconstruction of the facility included both structural and installation modernizations, adapting the building in terms of functionality, as well as conservation works on the historic fabric of the building while balancing the newly created spaces. The furnishings (e.g. tiled stoves) and historic ceiling moldings were restored. As part of the work, the structure of the building was also enlarged to include a space between the main body and the annexes - today it houses the main hall and a chapel. The rest of the rooms were adapted to the needs of the facility's resi-dents - rehabilitation rooms, sleeping rooms and medical offices were created. The unusual façade, consisting of the old brick facade of the former guardhouse and the modern part made of 6,000 ceramic shapes, combined the old with the new in an interesting way and emphasized the original architectural character of the military facilities.
